Christine’s Story

Oh, Happy Day!

Guess what, ladies (and gents)? I tried to log into InTouch today, and it wouldn't let me in! I am now officially no longer a consultant...all I need now is my check! I guess that is on its way to me now.

It was about this time last year that I first joined Mary Kay. We have a season ticket mini-plan for the North Shore Spirit, a team in a small independent baseball league. I actually used to carry that "on the go" bag with Look Books and crap to the ball games. No, I didn't go so far as to wear skirts and hose and all...I dressed the way most people dress for ball games...jeans or shorts, team logo shirts.

I never was all that pushy about "warm chattering," but looking back, I realize that the women in the seats around us tended to avoid even making eye contact with either of us (DH and me). I guess they were afraid that if they did anything to acknowledge our presence, I would immediately take that as a chance to jump on them, to try to sell them something, or worse, recruit them.

The section where our seats are is comprised of a lot of other season ticket holders. There is a special camaraderie among the fans, when they are sitting in the same seats all season long. If you've seen the movie "Fever Pitch", you know exactly what I mean.

I kind of felt cheated out of that last year. Other people saw something that I had yet to see...that many MK ladies have one-track minds and are to be avoided. Although I was never that pink, it now saddens me to realize that this is probably exactly what a lot of people thought of me, without even bothering to get to know me first.

I'm writing about this now because tonight, we're going to our first regular game of the season at this same ballpark...we renewed the same seats we had last year. But this year, it's going to be different. No more Mary Kay bags, Look Books, name tags, pins (I wore them on the bag, not on my Spirit T-shirts). I'm going to carry my sports tote instead...heck, it holds more stuff and is of better quality than that stupid "on the go" tote anyway...the straps on that thing were starting to give. And this year, I will make new baseball friends at the ballpark...they will have nothing to fear now from me!

Funny thing...one of the reasons I joined Mary Kay in the first place was to meet new people and make friends. It turned out that all it did was repel people, and I actually LOST a friend because of Mary Kay. Once I made the decision to get out, I found that I now have MORE friends...I have some baseball friends, as well as my scrap booking/rubber stamping friends (and now all of my online MK Survivor friends!). These people like me for ME, and will never turn on me because I didn't order enough MK stuff to help them get a car, a red jacket, or whatever.

I'm just so happy that I am now officially OUT of Mary Kay FOREVER!

Now I can say the following and mean it: I'M SO EXCITED! About the ball game tonight, that is...weather is gorgeous, BTW...and with the anticipation of getting my refund check! LOL!
